AntiVirus Updating
|
| |
Anti-Virus programs provide your system with a level of security from
net-born viruses and other malarkey. But if you are dial-up user
or Road Warrior with a laptop, your virus data files may get out of date
and leave you unprotected.
The main reason for this is that the big three vendors
(McAfee, Symantec/Norton, TrendMicro) all configure their
products out-of-box to update late at night or manually (ie not at all).
So, if your system is not online all the time, you will miss these updates.
Here we will use the Symantec Corporate version 8 configuration screens
as a template for changing all AV programs.

First Step: Create an Update Schedule

|
| |
Second Step: Schedule updates at a time when you are online.

|
| |
Third: If your software allows a makeup pass, it will retry.

| |
Lastly, and one of the most understood settings in Windows:
If you dial up via modem or VPN, you need to tell Windows to
perform the dial when a program wants to use the network.
